A critical part is rarely just a machining problem. It is a supply-chain problem, a materials problem and a wear problem at the same time.”
— Ed Braun, Chief Technical Engineer

IRVINE,, CA, UNITED STATES, September 30, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Norck, the German-American engineering-led manufacturing company, today announced results from its Critical Part Management (CPM) model, an approach to precision CNC machining built for the components that keep customers' production running. Across customer projects, CPM has delivered supply-chain efficiency gains of at least 50%. Customers have avoided additional costs of at least 25% per part and extended the service life of critical components from six to ten days.

What is Critical Part Management?

Critical Part Management (CPM) is Norck's model for managing high-impact components as ongoing programs instead of one-off purchase orders. Under CPM, Norck takes responsibility for the full lifecycle of a critical part: engineering review, design for manufacturing (DFM), material selection, precision CNC machining, surface finishing and coating, quality inspection and fast delivery.

The problem: critical parts that stop production

For many manufacturers, a small number of precision components decide whether a production line keeps running. When these parts arrive late, wear out early or miss specification, the costs add up quickly: unplanned downtime, expedited shipping, rework and emergency sourcing from multiple suppliers. Norck's customers were facing these costs with custom CNC machined parts that combined tight tolerances, demanding surface requirements and harsh operating conditions.

Tight-tolerance CNC machining and precision surface finishing

Through its CNC machining services, from CNC metal milling to plastic CNC machining, Norck produces components to tolerances as tight as ±0.001 mm, with surface finishes down to Ra [0.4] µm. The machining strategy, tooling and process sequence are planned around each part's critical features, so accuracy is built into the process rather than checked afterward. Dimensional inspection confirms that every part meets specification before delivery.
DLC and TiN coatings for longer part life

Where wear limits a part's life, Norck applies advanced surface coatings matched to the application, including diamond-like carbon (DLC) and titanium nitride (TiN). DLC coatings offer low friction and high wear resistance, while TiN adds surface hardness for demanding mechanical loads. On their own, these coatings extended wear life by 25% compared with customers' previous parts.

Engineering-led material selection

Choosing the right material is often the single biggest factor in how long a machined part lasts. Norck's technical engineers assessed each customer's operating conditions and recommended materials from its range of metals and engineering plastics. This added at least a further 33% to service life. Together, the two improvements moved one customer's part replacement interval from six days to ten, which means 40% fewer part changes and fewer interruptions on the production line.

Fast delivery that protects project schedules

Delays on a single critical component can stall an entire project. Norck's on-demand CNC machining workflow shortens the path from quote to delivered parts, keeping customer projects on schedule. By avoiding expediting fees, idle time and delay-related costs, customers saved at least 25% in additional costs per part.

Results for customers

- At least 50% improvement in supply-chain efficiency for critical components
- At least 25% in avoided additional costs per part through fast delivery
- Service life extended from six to ten days through combined coating and material optimization
- 40% fewer part replacements, reducing downtime and maintenance effort
- One accountable partner for engineering, CNC machining, coating and inspection

From prototype to high-volume production

CPM covers the full product lifecycle. Customers can start with prototypes and low-volume custom CNC machined parts, then scale with the same engineering team through repeat orders and high-volume manufacturing. Norck serves industries where part accuracy and reliability are critical, including aerospace and defense, automotive, robotics and automation, industrial machinery, medical devices, electronics and energy.

Executive quote

"A critical part is rarely just a machining problem. It is a supply-chain problem, a materials problem and a wear problem at the same time," said Ed Braun, Chief Technical Engineer at Norck. "With Critical Part Management, we take ownership of all of it. When a customer goes from changing a part every six days to every ten, the savings show up in every shift."
